In Thames Valley, we support our leaders no matter where they are on their journey. Whether new to leadership, experienced in the role, or somewhere in between, our leaders have ongoing opportunities for training, reflection, empowerment, and inspiration. We value and appreciate our leaders and know that they are at the foundation of student success.

Associate Programs

Associate Teacher:

Associate Teachers provide the guidance necessary for Teacher Candidates to grow and develop professionally through classroom practice. The atmosphere of trust and respect established by the Associate Teacher is essential to the success of the practicum experience. Associate ECE:

The Associate ECE Training Program is delivered in collaboration with Fanshawe College. Associate ECEs are nominated by their Administrators and should be experienced in their role as ECE as well as capable of supporting student candidates in their professional development. Associate EA:

Educational Assistant candidates will be placed with trained educational assistant leaders during their placements in schools. Please contact SSD for more information on Associate Educational Assistant Program.

Leadership Series

Managing Difficult Conversation

We have so many interactions in the run of a day, it’s reasonable to expect that some of them are going to be difficult. Whether these are conversations that you have in person, or you manage a virtual team and need to speak with someone in another city, there are things that you can do to make these conversations go smoothly. This workshop will give you the tools to manage difficult conversations and get the best results possible out of them.

Mentoring For All

RECE Mentoring Program:

This program provides Principal nominated Early Childhood Educators, mentorship training to provide support to ECE colleagues who self-identify areas for professional growth. This opportunity will also provide leadership opportunities for those ECEs who demonstrate exemplary practices in their work as they build capacity in others and the system by acting as mentors. EA Mentoring Program:

This program provides Principal nominated educational assistants, mentorship training to provide support to EA colleagues who self-identify areas for professional growth. This opportunity will also provide leadership opportunities for those EAs who demonstrate exemplary practices in their work as they build capacity in others and the system by acting as mentors. Secretarial Mentoring Program:

This training gives principal nominated office and clerical mentors the skills and knowledge to mentor office staff who have taken on a school role for the first time. This opportunity provides leadership opportunities for those school office and clerical staff who demonstrate exemplary practices in their work as they build capacity in others and the system.

New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) Mentoring

The TVDSB Mentor Training program includes: the phases of the new teacher’s first year; roles and responsibilities of mentors; strategies to build effective relationships / nurturing partnerships; providing useful observations to assist the new teacher’s professional growth; integration of mentoring activities with ongoing personal and professional development; dealing with a teacher in crisis and instructional coaching. System Leaders Symposium

This full day symposium explores innovative ideas for leadership, learning and approaches to support student achievement and well-being. Each year there is a thematic focus for the symposium with a keynote speaker to start the day and breakout sessions with expert facilitators.

Vice-Principal Symposium

This full-day symposium, targeted specifically for Vice-Principals offers participants an opportunity to explore innovative ideas for leadership, learning and approaches to support student achievement and well-being, specific to their role. Each year there is a thematic focus for the symposium with a keynote speaker to start the day and breakout sessions with expert facilitators.

Leadership Symposium

This one-day voluntary symposium is for all interested Thames Valley staff. Held on a Saturday, this event offers participants an opportunity to explore innovative ideas for leadership, no matter their role in the system. A keynote speaker begins and ends the day, with breakout sessions run by expert facilitators from within Thames Valley that participants can self-select.
