Chromebook Hardware Help

Warning!
When troubleshooting Chromebook hardware issues please do not, under any circumstances, open the Chromebook, as they do pose a shock hazard. Also opening the Chromebook may void the warranty.
Please leave opening Chromebooks to our ITS professionals.

  1. Move your finger around on the touchpad.
  2. Press any key.
  3. Press the power button.
  4. Make sure the Chromebook is plugged in.

If none of the above work, try an external HDMI display with HDMI cable if available. If you are unable to resolve your issue using the online resources above, please submit an Online Service Request Form.

WARNING:  If the Chromebook charger is very hot, unplug and do not use, email servicesupport@tvdsb.ca for further help. 

  1. Unplug the Chromebook charger from the wall and the Chromebook. 
  2. Check the power cable and brick to make sure they are tightly connected. 
  3. Plug the power cable back into the wall and the Chromebook firmly.

The Chromebook touchpad (the built-in mouse), is sometimes called the trackpad.  

  1. Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the touchpad. 
  2. Press the esc key several times.
  3. Drumroll your fingers on the touchpad for ten seconds.
  4. Turn the Chromebook off and back on again.

If it is still not working you can plug in an external mouse as a temporary solution.

  • To zoom in (make bigger): press ctrl key and the Plus + key.
  • To zoom out (make smaller): and press the ctrl key and the Minus – key.
  • Reset zoom: press ctrl key and the 0 key.
