General ESL-LINC courses are organized by:

• Higher CLB courses develop your skills for work and further education.

IELTS Preparation   Night Online class 

(Achieved CLB 6 minimum required in all skills ) 

This course is designed for students who must take the IELTS test for admission to college or university or to become recertified in their profession in Canada. Some of the aspects of the course include: developing test-taking skills and strategies; learning about expected essay formats and test-related tasks; practice in using academic level vocabulary; developing reading comprehension and listening /speaking skills and strategies for tests. Citizenship Test Preparation  Online class with weekly Google Meet

(Achieved CLB 4 minimum required in all skills ) 

This course is online and self-directed. It helps you prepare for the citizenship test. You will work on your own computer to complete 12 units.  Learn more about Canada: its heritage and history; its government and systems; its geography and regions; your rights and responsibilities. You will receive a certificate of completion after completing all units. Classes start September, January, April & June

English Anytime  Online classes with weekly Google Meet

(Achieved CLB 3 minimum required in all skills ) 

Do you find it difficult to attend class regularly? Do you work different days and times? This course is for you! The online course is a mix of self-study and Google Meets with your instructor. The Meets are offered Friday afternoon and evening to meet with the instructor.  Course is set to address CLB 4-7. Questions?

Path2Work - Customer & Client Care Day (Sept-Jan and Feb-Jun) Night class (Sept-Jun)

(Achieved CLB 4 minimum required in all skills)

This employment prep course covers entry-level employment language training for customer and client care with CLB PBLA progression in L/S/R/W. Course content includes customer service strategies, meeting customer and client expectations, workplace communication, basic IT skills, team-building and networking, ethical customer and client interactions, Canadian workplace culture, diversity in the workplace, applying for work, job applications, resume building, interview techniques, health and safety, and CPR/First Aid.

This is a blended course, some days in-person at Wheable, some days online.

ESL4Work for Healthcare   (Sept-Jan and Feb-Jun)

(Achieved CLB 5 minimum required in all skills) 

This employment prep course focuses on employment in the healthcare field.  The course offers CLB PBLA progression in L/S/R/W and a 7-week COOP placement with the opportunity to earn OSSD credits. Course content includes healthcare sector pathways, the Canadian healthcare system, anatomy and physiology, medical conditions and treatment, nutrition, well-being and prevention, patient care and rapport,  WHMIS, health and safety, and CPR/First Aid.

This is a blended course, some days in-person at Wheable, some days online.

To qualify to attend ESL classes with TVDSB, you must be:

• an adult age 18 years and older
• Refugee Claimant or
• Convention Refugee or
• Permanent Resident or
• Landed Immigrant or
• CANADIAN CITIZEN who was a newcomer to Canada at some point in your life and English is not your first language
• certain categories of Provincial nominee and temporary foreign worker
• Live-In Caregiver
• Ukrainian national in Canada under the CUAET Program
• at ANY Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level

Once enrolled in any ESL class (morning, afternoon, afterschool, evening), students are expected to attend classes regularly.

To qualify to attend LINC classes with TVDSB, you must be:

• a newcomer to Canada
• an adult age 18 years and older
• Convention Refugee or
• Permanent Resident or
• Landed Immigrant
• Persons from Gaza with Immigration code MOME2023
• at a Canadian Language Benchmark: Literacy level to Level 5)

Once enrolled in a LINC class (morning, afternoon, after school), students are expected to attend classes regularly with an 80% attendance rate

• You must have an up-to-date language assessment or have attended LINC or ESL classes in the past 2 years.
• If you do not have an up-to-date language assessment, please call the Language Assessment and Referral Centre (LARS) at: 519-432-1133 ext 362 or visit their website.
• You can register and join a class throughout the year

• Licensed child care is accessible at or near some ESL sites. Space is limited and it is suggested that anyone interested should contact the provider. For a listing of child care providers in London, go to the Information London website.
  
• An interactive website is available which allows parents to search for available childcare seats. Go to http://www.familyinfo.ca.
• A fee is charged for this service. However, the City of London may be able to assist parents with child care costs. Ask at the child care site or click on this link Child Care Fee Subsidy Program 
• Fees may be covered for learners in LINC Classes at Wheable.

Locations near ESL-LINC sites

• Next door to the Wheable Center, the Chelsea Green Children's Centre operates a licensed child care for children 3 months to 5 years of age. Call for more information 519-433-4225.
• Near Banting Annex, the Wilfred Jury Early Childhood Education Centre operates a licensed child care for children 30 months to 5 years of age. Call 519-471-1640.
• Near the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre, London Children's Connection operates a licensed child care at Rick Hansen Public School for children 30 months to 5 years of age. Call for more information 519-668-7093. 
• Near the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre, London Children's Connection operates a licensed child care at Ashley Oaks Public School for children 30 months to 5 years of age. Call for more information 519-680-2727. 

Care for Newcomer Children (CNC)

• CNC is available at G.A Wheable and Banting Annex for learners enrolled in the LINC program.
• CNC differs from childcare in that parents must remain on site at all times. There is no cost for this service.
• To be eligible for LINC, the adult learner must be a convention refugee or landed immigrant/permanent resident.
