Election Compliance Volunteers Needed

The Thames Valley District School Board is seeking interested applicants for appointment to its Election Compliance Audit Committee for the 2026 municipal election.

Compliance Audit Committees are required under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA) to consider applications from eligible electors requesting audits of candidates’, contributors, and registered third party campaign finances in relation to the 2026 Municipal Election, and any by-elections during the 2026-2030 term pursuant to the MEA.  Committees may be required to appoint auditors and determine if legal proceedings are required as a result of the auditors’ reports or reports from the clerk of the municipality.  The powers and functions of the Committee are set out in Section 88 of the MEA and are in place to ensure that the provisions pertaining to campaign finances have not been contravened and to follow the necessary steps to ensure compliance.

Applicants shall have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the campaign financing rules of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996;
  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills;
  • Experience working on committees, task forces or similar settings;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quasi-judicial proceedings;
  • Availability and willingness to attend meetings (day and/or evening); and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Applicants with a background in accounting, auditing or law are encouraged to apply. Board members, staff or candidates running for office in the 2026 municipal elections for the Thames Valley District School Board are not eligible.  To avoid conflict of interest, appointees must not undertake audits or prepare financial statements for the 2026 electoral candidates.

The Compliance Audit Committee will commence November 15, 2026, and continue through the duration of the Trustees’ 4-year term.
