Clara Brenton Public School student advances to Canadian Wide Science Fair with asteroid detection algorithm

Grade 7 student Siddharth Patel from Clara Benton Public School recently developed a custom computer algorithm that helps streamline the process of detecting asteroids.

Earlier this year Siddharth earned gold at the Thames Valley Science and Engineering Fair for his work, and a coveted invitation to represent the region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), which will take place May 23 to 30, 2026 in Edmonton Alberta.

The CWSF is Canada’s largest annual youth STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) event, bringing together the top young innovators from across the country.

In 2025, Siddharth was featured on CTV news for his discovery of two provisional asteroids.

More recently, he appeared as a special guest on CBC Radio’s Afternoon Drive to offer a young space-enthusiast’s perspective about the Artemis II mission around the moon.
