Congratulations to all of our Grade 8 students on reaching this incredible milestone. We are so proud of your achievements and look forward to celebrating with you and your families throughout the year.
Grade 8 Grad - will be held on Tuesday June 23rd, 2026 @ 6:00 pm in the Tweedsmuir gymnasium. Details about the evening and tickets were sent home to all Gr. 8 parents by email.

High School Transition Programs
High School Here I Come!
Registration is now open for High School Here I Come!, a free summer transition program for Grade 8 students entering a TVDSB high school in September.
This program runs over two mornings in August at local high schools and helps students prepare for Grade 9.
Students will learn about:
- Study skills and organization
- Academic expectations in high school
- Literacy and numeracy skill building
- How to get involved in clubs, teams, and school life

Career Exploration Opportunities
Build a Dream Career Discovery Expo
The Build a Dream Career Discovery Expo allows students and families to explore different career possibilities through hands-on activities and conversations with professionals.
Students can learn about careers in areas such as:
- Skilled trades
- Technology and engineering
- Emergency services
- Entrepreneurship and leadership
This event is open to students in Grades 7–12 and their families.

Specialty High School Programs
Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD)
The Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD) supports high school student-athletes who participate in high-performance sports and compete at regional, provincial, national, or international levels.
BealArt – H.B. Beal Secondary School
The BealArt program is a specialized arts program for students with strong interest and ability in the visual arts.

International Baccalaureate (IB) – Oakridge Secondary School
Oakridge Secondary School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
As a verified IB World School, Oakridge shares a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education. The IB program is designed for students who enjoy academic challenge and want to develop strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Oakridge Secondary School is currently TVDSB’s only school offering the IB Diploma Programme.
TVDSB offers a variety of specialty programs and unique learning opportunities for secondary school students.
Programs include opportunities in:
- Skilled trades and technology
- Arts programs
- Academic enrichment pathways

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
To graduate from high school in Ontario, students must earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Requirements include:
- 30 secondary school credits
- 40 hours of community involvement
- The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Requirement
Understanding these requirements early can help students plan their high school pathway.
Volunteer Hours
To earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement.
Grade 8 students may begin earning volunteer hours during the summer before entering Grade 9.
