Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program
The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre, through the Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program, provides settlement support at Emily Carr Public School. This program is designed to assist newcomer families and students as they adjust to their new community and school environment.
The Cross Cultural Learner Centre offers a range of services to newcomers and diverse communities across the London area. Its goal is to promote inclusivity, encourage community involvement, and support cultural expression for both newcomers and long-time residents.
Through the SWIS Program, services include:
- Connecting with newcomer families to understand and respond to their needs
- Providing settlement support within the school setting
- Collaborating with teachers, parents, students, and community organizations
- Supporting families in understanding the Canadian education system and parenting practices
- Connecting families with school and community resources through referrals
Families are encouraged to reach out with any questions or to access support. The program works in partnership with the school community to help maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
