Emily Carr Public School was officially opened in April of 1971 as a junior school. The original school was outgrown and renovations were completed in 1991. 

Emily Carr Public School is a kindergarten to grade 8 school with an annual population of about seven hundred fifty students. 

Emily Carr Public School is known as the home of the Thunderbirds, a reflection of the artwork of our namesake Emily Carr.

Emily Carr - The Artist 

Emily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia. She was an individual with an independence of mind, natural artistic talent, a spirit of expressionalism and revolt against authority. Her paintings glowed with life and were filled with light. Most of her inspirations came from the sea and the First Nations peoples. Her distinguished work was greatly admired by the art community and made her one of the most prominent Canadian artists of the twentieth century. One of her most famous works entitiled, The Raven, was featured on a postage stamp honouring the century of her birth.

Emily Carr was a Canadian who sought to interpret her country to others and succeeded. We are very proud as a school to be named after such a unique and talented person.
