Welcome to Westmount Public School

Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality are important. Excessive absences can result in poor school performance. When an absence is necessary, parents or guardians should notify the school.

If an absence is not reported, the school will contact home to confirm the student’s whereabouts. Notes or communication are required for early dismissal or after illness.

For safety reasons, students will not be released without written permission or prior contact. Students will only be released to authorized contacts, so please ensure your contact information is up to date.

Absences should be reported using the SchoolMessenger system.

Arriving Late or Leaving Early

• Students arriving after 8:55 AM must report to the office.
• Students leaving before 3:25 PM must be signed out by an adult.
• Students leaving at lunch must have a note and sign out and back in.
• Parents should meet students outside at designated doors at the start and end of the day.

All parents and visitors must report to the office to sign in and out.

Contacting Teachers

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school to speak with a teacher or arrange a meeting.

Teachers are generally available between 8:30–8:45 AM and 3:30–3:45 PM. If unavailable, messages will be taken and returned.

Tree Nut and Peanut Safe School

Westmount is a tree nut and peanut safe school. This includes all indoor and outdoor areas on school property.

Some students have severe (anaphylactic) allergies to peanuts and tree nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and cashews.

To support student safety, please:

• Do not send peanut or nut products in lunches
• Avoid peanut alternative products that may be mistaken for real peanut products
• Ensure food items are clearly safe

Medication at School

Prescription medication cannot be administered without proper authorization signed by both a physician and parent/guardian. Forms must be updated annually.

Please contact the school if your child requires medication during school hours. Student safety depends on following these procedures.

Code of Conduct

The safety and well-being of every student is a priority at Westmount. Clear expectations support a respectful, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

General Expectations

• Students treat others with respect
• Students show respect to peers and adults
• Students respect school and personal property
• Students follow school and classroom rules

Specific Expectations

• Attend regularly, arrive on time, and complete assigned work
• Use assigned doors and move quietly in hallways
• Play safely and cooperatively
• Use appropriate language
• Dress appropriately for the season and learning environment
• Remove hats indoors
• Keep hands and feet to self
• Leave snow, sticks, and stones on the ground
• Do not bring dangerous items to school
• Bullying, discrimination, or abuse of any kind (physical, verbal, or psychological) is unacceptable

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

Members of the school community must help maintain a learning environment by limiting the use of personal devices.

Devices may only be used:

• During instructional time with teacher direction
• For health or medical purposes
• To support special education needs

Personal Property

The school cannot take responsibility for personal items brought from home. Students should leave valuables at home.

A lost and found is located in both the lower and upper foyers. Families are encouraged to check regularly for missing items.

Labeling clothing and belongings helps items be returned.
