French Immersion Information

Thank you for considering French Immersion for your child. We are excited to be part of this journey with you.

This page provides key information to help answer common questions.

How do teachers and staff communicate with families?

Teachers communicate using a variety of methods, including email, phone calls, and student agendas.

Primary classes may use zippered pouches for sending home notes and printed materials.

Many teachers also use online platforms such as Google Classroom, Brightspace, SchoolMessenger, or class websites.

School-wide updates are shared through the school website, weekly communications from the administration, and email notifications.

How and when do we receive bussing information?

Families must register for transportation after completing school registration.

You will need your child’s student number to log in to the parent portal.

The portal provides pick-up and drop-off times, bus numbers, and safety expectations.

Route updates and change requests are also managed through this site.

Do families need to prepare their child for French Immersion?

No prior French knowledge is required. Students begin learning French at school.

Before- and after-school programs

The school offers before- and after-school care through Good Beginnings.

Availability depends on space.

What reading level is expected for a 6-year-old?

There is no required reading level for entry. Teachers assess each student and support their progress.

Students are encouraged to begin recognizing letters and sounds. Sight words are a helpful next step.

French instruction begins at an introductory level for all students.

School hours and daily schedule

Students who take the bus are supported by staff and may be paired with older student “bus buddies.”

Walkers are dismissed from the south exit and meet caregivers outside.

Students being picked up must be signed out at the office.
