Safe Schools

Blenheim District Public School

2026-2027 Safe and Inclusive School Plan

Our school is committed to providing all students with a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment free from bullying and harassment that promotes respect, acceptance, and empathy.

Staff, students, parents and caregivers, and community partners will work together as a team to help make our school safe and welcoming for everyone.

The Safe and Inclusive School Plan highlights some of the key actions that our school community will put in place as part of our bullying prevention and intervention efforts.

Key Priorities and Goals

This year we are focusing on ensuring positive and safe learning environments.

We are doing this to/because we recognize that students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally when they feel safe, supported, and valued. This focus is driven by school and community-level data, as well as concerns raised by staff, students, and families about the need for more inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning spaces.

Key Actions or Strategies

  • Educators: Build capacity to respond to racism, support student well-being, and create inclusive environments through targeted professional development (e.g., sessions with the Safe Schools Intervention Coach and/or Special Education Team), collaborative staff meetings using case studies, and the integration of culturally relevant teaching resources in partnership with our Teacher Librarian.
  • Caregivers: Involve caregivers and the school community in learning about mental health, digital citizenship, and anti-racism through family engagement events, guest speakers, and parent workshops.
  • Students: Provide students with access to inclusive school clubs and opportunities to connect, collaborate, and celebrate diversity—fostering appreciation and respect for differences. Continue the “Caught being awesome” initiative for monthly recognition of student kindness. Including social skills focus on video announcements.  Involve community partners in presenting relevant information to our students about these topics.

Community and Home Connections

  • Try setting a "kindness challenge" at home with your child — encourage them to do one kind or inclusive act each day and talk about it at dinner.
  • Ask your child about how they feel included and respected at school. What helps them feel safe, valued, and connected in their classroom and school community? Encourage conversations about how they can help others feel safe, included, and respected as well. Reading social stories together can be a valuable way to build understanding, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Many free social stories and resources are available online through educational and child development websites.
  • Check out this resource: BDPS Parent Lending Library and Media Smarts for Parents about helping children understand respect, empathy, diversity and responsible behavior both online and offline.

This Safe Schools and Well-Being portfolio collaborates to support staff through Tier-1, evidence-based practices. These foundational practices establish safety, connection, and regulation, which are essential conditions for learning. Through the important work, a deep understanding of students and relationships will foster the positive climate necessary for student well-being and achievement.

Developing a Safe and Inclusive Culture

Under the direction and guidance of the Ministry of Education (Policy/Program Memorandum No. 144 (PPM144), our School Board is committed to supporting schools to create and maintain positive school climates.

The Thames Valley District School Board would like to introduce the Safe and Inclusive School Plan (SISP). This plan replaces the former Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan (BPIP), and the Safe and Accepting School Plan. This plan will be completed annually by every elementary and secondary school in the Thames Valley District School Board.

The Safe and Inclusive School Team meets several times throughout the school year. During this time, school teams will identify one local priority, and create a plan to support the identified goal. As the plan is implemented throughout the year, the Safe and Inclusive School team will continuously support these goals and monitor the results.
