Cartier Public School serves some 350 students in grades Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight, and is situated on 9.5 acres in the Lockwood Park subdivision of London. Cartier was built in 1967 as a Centennial School and was named after one of the Fathers of Confederation. The school replaced the O'Dell School built in the mid 1840's. In 1967, the subdivision contained only single family homes; by 1996 apartments and townhouses completed the subdivision.
Students at Cartier represent many cultures, from around the world. Our school colours are Gold and Black.
We have many programs which provide a strong academic focus and learning opportunities for all students. Parent involvement, committed staff, enthusiastic students and a strong volunteer program contribute to the warm, caring atmosphere of our school. Families have the opportunity to utilize the before- and after- school childcare services provided each day by the London Children's Connection. Sports Activities: Co-ed Soccer, Cross Country, Boys' and Girls' Volleyball and Basketball teams,Co-ed Intermediate Floor Hockey, Track and Field, Playday Activities.
Measures of Student Achievement and Success:
At Thames Valley, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work.
