Welcome to Old North Elementary School located in London, Ontario, Canada.

Located in old North London, Old North Public School serves a community of approximately 400 students from diverse backgrounds. Currently we are also the holding school for students who live in the growing Richmond Hill and Sunningdale subdivisions, and those students are transported by school bus to and from school. Built in 1916, we have a long tradition of academic excellence which we continue to provide to our students.

We have outstanding parental and community support, and strong value is placed on academics, the arts, and sports by our school community. Our motto, "Excellence in Action" epitomizes our school characteristics.

Our school goals emphasize building resilience with a focus on developing math skills.

Our strong volunteer program provides excellent additional support to our students. Our dedicated School Council provides support to our staff and students and fosters increased community involvement in our school. They strongly support curriculum initiatives and help to purchase additional learning materials and resources to benefit our students. The Before and After School program and evening recreational programs provide further support to our community.

Our school colours are navy blue and gold. Our mascot is "Lightning" the Raven.

School Goal

Old North Students will be able to communicate and organize responses to multi-step questions to improve their achievement in all subjects. They will develop and apply perseverance, risk taking and higher-level thinking skills across all subjects toward / in establishing themselves as resilient, empowered learners.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Old North has extensive co-instructional programs which involve many students at all grade levels, including;

Math Club, Computer Club, Chess Club, Library Club, Hall Monitors, Year Book Club, Dance Club, Skipping Club, House Leagues, Cross Country Team, Track and Field Team, Volleyball Team (Boys and Girls) Basketball Team (Boys and Girls), Orchestra, Primary, Junior, and Senior Choir.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success At Thames Valley

We believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices.

A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work.

Nestled amongst the character homes and mature trees of London's Old North community is the century-old Old North Public School (formerly Ryerson Public School School). Located at the corner of Waterloo Street and Victoria Street, Old North Public School is home to approximately 425 elementary students.

With the revelations of the atrocities that took place at residential schools throughout Canada for many of our Indigenous youth, Ryerson Public school was renamed to Old North Public School as a means to support healing within the Indigenous community.

Built in 1916, the school is as steeped in its traditions as it is in the work ethic and dedication of the students who walk its storied halls. Old North students strive for excellence both in the classroom and in the community, always keeping in mind the school motto, "We know we can if we think we can."
