Design our Seasonal Greeting Card

All students are encouraged to create an original work of art for the cover of our seasonal Thames Valley greeting card.

The winning card designs will be sent to members of the community from Mark Fisher, Director of Education and our Board Chair, Arlene Morell. 

Also, if selected, your artwork may be reproduced along with other student selections to create a holiday package of cards for next holiday season (2021) to raise money for The Caring Fund. This fund provides emergency assistance for students in the Thames Valley District School Board in need. 

Categories

The six card designs will feature the student artwork in each of the following categories:

  • Special Education
  • Primary (JK – Grade 3)
  • Junior (Grades 4-6)
  • Senior (Grades 7-8)
  • Secondary (Grades 9-12)
  • Adult and Continuing Education

The contest is open until Friday, December 4, 2020 and the winners will be announced early December. All submissions must be the original artwork of the student, follow a winter theme and can be created using various media, such as photography, paint, crayon, collage and pastel or computer-generated graphics.

Criteria for Artwork

  • All submissions must be the original artwork of the student; no copyright images and/or subjects accepted.
  • Please ensure art work is generic, and features winter themes only (traditional symbols such as Santa and Christmas trees will not be considered).
  • Acceptable entry media include photography, computer graphics, paint, crayon, collage, pencil, pastel, and mixed media.
  • If a finalist featured people in a photograph, a permission form MUST be signed by the guardian of the subject, prior to card creation.
  • Final Card size will be 5" x 7" - size of submitted artwork should be proportional (same shape or close).
  • Larger artwork is preferred, and will be reduced to fit.
  • Horizontal or vertical format acceptable.
  • Each entry must be labeled with student’s name, teacher’s name, student’s grade, and school name.

How to Submit your Artwork

The Education Centre is closed to the public so we encourage the use of the Board courier or electronic submissions. Please do not drop off submissions in person.

1. Hard copy (original) submissions:

Please roll or package the artwork carefully and ensure the information label is affixed to the art. Artwork may be submitted via the Board courier or delivered to the Ed Centre by the deadline of Friday, December 4, 2020.

Schools, classes or groups of students may send submissions packaged together, but please ensure the individual pieces of art are labelled separately by each artist.

2. Electronic submissions:

Submissions can be photographed or scanned and sent by email, or shared by Google Drive or OneDrive. Please include a completed label with your submission. It is also recommended that electronic file names include the name of the student, school and grade (example: JSmith-Mountsfield-Gr1.jpeg)
