Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) provides industry opportunities through specific courses, industry-standard certifications, and real world experiences. Students register in Grade 10 to participate in their Grade 11 & 12 years of secondary school.

SHSM Common Components
Each Specialist High Skills Major consists of five required components:
- A defined bundle of 8-10 grade 11 and grade 12 credits. Co-op is a required component of SHSM.
- Sector-recognized certifications, training courses, and programs.
- Experiential learning activities and career exploration within the sector.
- "Reach ahead" learning experiences connected with the student's postsecondary plans.
- Students must complete one of the following. Coding, Math Literacy or Innovation Creativity Entrepreneurship Training (ICE)
SHSM school leads will support all requirements. Students must successfully complete all the required components to earn the SHSM "Red Seal" designation on their diploma. In addition, students receive an "SHSM Record" which outlines their achievement of the five required components.
