Night School

Alternative Education at G.A. Wheable Centre offers Night School in-class credit courses that provide current secondary school students and adult learners an opportunity to:

  • obtain credits required to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • improve grades on previously earned credits
  • complete prerequisite courses required for post-secondary destinations or employment
  • learn or perfect an international language

The night school credit courses meet the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum expectations.

Program Dates and Location

NIGHT SCHOOL CLASSES: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

LOCATION: G.A. Wheable Centre, 70 Jacqueline St, London, Ontario


SEMESTER 2: February 18, 2020 to June 11, 2020
There will be no classes during the March Break from March 16-20, 2020.

Registration Dates:

Thursday, February 6, 2020 (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Tuesday, February 11, 2020 (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Registration closes:

Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

General Information and Expectations

1. Students may only take ONE Night School Credit Course each semester.

2. It is recommended that students speak to their current school Guidance Counsellor regarding course selections and the required prerequisite courses.

3. Students under 18 years of age must have parent/legal guardian approval to attend night school. The appropriate section of the Registration Form must be signed by the parent/legal guardian.

4. Secondary day school students must have approval from their home school in order to attend Night School. The appropriate section of the Registration Form must be signed by the school Administrator or Guidance Counsellor.

5. International Students who are currently required to pay tuition fees to attend secondary day school are also required to pay fees to attend a Night School class. This fee must be paid prior to registering for a night school course. Please see fee payment options under Registration Information below.

6. A security deposit of $100.00 is required for textbooks/materials. On the first day of night school students must provide their teacher with a cheque, money order, bank draft, or Ontario Works book deposit form made payable to Thames Valley District School Board. Other methods of payment will not be accepted. The deposit will be returned to the student at the end of the course once the textbook/materials are returned in good condition. In the event that the textbook/materials are not returned or are not in good condition, the security deposit will be used to cover the cost of replacement.

7. Alternative Education reserves the right to cancel a course if there is insufficient enrolment. The student/parent/legal guardian will be notified of the cancelled course by phone or email at the phone number or email address provided on the registration form.

8. Night school adheres to a very strict policy of mandatory attendance and punctuality. Students are expected to be punctual and attend every class. Students who are absent on the first day may be removed from the class, or lose their spot in class to another student on the wait list.

9. Students will receive midterm report cards halfway through the program and final report cards on the last day of the program. Students who do not withdraw from their night school course prior to the full disclosure date (April, 21, 2020 for Semester 2) will have a mark appear on their transcript. Final marks will be submitted to the student’s home school shortly after the end of the program.

10. Conduct or behaviour that is contrary to a positive learning environment will result in a student’s removal from night school. It is recommended that students read the entire Code of Conduct.

Registration Opens: Monday, December 2, 2019

Registration Closes: Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

Late registrations will not be accepted.


It is recommended that students register early to secure a spot in their preferred course. Once a course is full, a wait-list will be established and used on a first-come, first-served basis.

In the event that a course is cancelled due to insufficient enrolment, the student/parent/legal guardian will be notified by phone/email at the phone number or email address provided on the registration form.

Please note, the night school office does not send out registration confirmations by email, phone or mail. Once the registration form has been submitted to the night school office by the student’s home school the student is registered and should report to night school on the first day of classes.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS who currently pay fees to attend secondary day school are also required to pay a Night School Course Fee. The fee for 2019-20 is $1781.25 for each full credit night school course and this amount must be paid prior to registering. Payment must be made in person at G.A. Wheable Centre, Night School Office (Room 249), 70 Jacqueline St, London, (Mon-Fri 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 1:00-2:45 p.m.) by one of the following payment methods:

• Money order or bank draft payable to Thames Valley District School Board
• Cash (change cannot be provided)
• Debit (one transaction only, daily limit must allow for full payment)
A receipt will be issued at the time of payment.
