New Credit In-Class Secondary English as a Second Language (ESL) summer courses are open to all secondary day school students and all adult students who are currently working towards completing their Secondary School Diploma. See our "Secondary ESL Course Offerings" under Related Links below.

General Information
  1. Students may only take ONE Summer School Credit Course, regardless of the mode of delivery.
  2. Regular attendance and punctuality are critical for success at summer school. Due to the compressed time frame of summer school, daily attendance and punctuality are mandatory. Accommodations will not be made for family vacation plans or personal activities. Exam dates cannot be rescheduled or modified.
  3. Students must arrive for class by 8:15 a.m. on the first day of summer school to ensure they do not lose their place in the class. Absence on the first day may result in the student being removed from the course, or their place could be given to another student on the wait list. 
  4. International Students who are currently required to pay International Fees to attend regular day school will also be required to pay a fee to attend Summer School. This fee must be paid prior to registering for a summer school course. See details under Registration Information and Forms below.
  5. TVDSB reserves the right to cancel a course if there is insufficient enrolment for the course. Student/parent/legal guardian will be notified by phone or email if a course they registered for is cancelled.
  6. Students are responsible for their own transportation.
  7. Students are expected to adhere to the standard rules of academic integrity. Behaviour that is contrary to a positive learning environment could result in a student's removal from summer school. It is recommended that students read the entire Summer School Code of Conduct.
Registration Information and Forms

Registration Opens: Friday, May 1, 2020

Registration Closes: Friday, June 26, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

**Late registrations will not be accepted.

We recommend that you register early to secure a spot in your preferred course. Once a course is full a wait-list will be established and used on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, please be aware that a course may be cancelled if there is insufficient enrolment for the course.

Students under 18 years of age must have parent/legal guardian approval to register for summer school.

Prior to completing Registration Form:

Secondary school students interested in taking an In-Class Secondary ESL summer course should speak to their current school Guidance Counsellor regarding course selections and the required prerequisite courses.

Grade 8 students starting Grade 9 in September 2020: student/parent/legal guardian should speak to the Learning Support Teacher (LST) or Guidance Lead at their current elementary school if they are interested in registering for a Secondary ESL in-class summer course.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:  Students who are currently required to pay International Fees to attend regular day school will also be required to pay a fee to attend Summer School. This fee must be paid prior to registering for a summer course. 

The 2020 fees are $1781.25 for a full credit course.

Payment must be made in person at G.A. Wheable Centre - Summer School Office, 70 Jacqueline St, London. Payments can only be accepted Monday to Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. or from 1:00-2:45 p.m. by one of the following payment methods:

  • Money order or bank draft payable to: Thames Valley District School Board
  • Cash (must be exact amount, we cannot provide change)
  • Debit (one transaction only, daily limit must allow for full payment)

A receipt will be issued at the time of payment.


NOTE: The registration forms will be available on May 1, 2020 when registration begins.

  1. Registration Form for Grade 9-12 and Adult students currently attending a TVDSB school
  2. Registration Form for Grade 8 students currently attending a TVDSB school, starting Grade 9 in September 2020
  3. Registration Form for all NON-TVDSB students including NON-TVDSB Adult students
