Improvement Course Online Program

The Summer Improvement Course Online program is open to current TVDSB secondary students who have already passed a course in this school year but wish to improve their final grade, and also to students who want to close learning gaps and enhance their knowledge of course content. These courses will cover key expectations of the curriculum content.
Students may receive only one credit for any secondary course. As per Ministry of Education requirements, for students in Grade 9 and 10 courses, only the higher mark should be recorded in the Ontario Student Transcript. For students in Grade 11 and 12 courses, each attempt, with the percentage grade obtained, should be recorded on the Ontario Transcript, with a notation of R (repeat credit) for the lower percentage grade. Only the higher mark is considered by post secondary institutions.
Given this year's school closures, the Ministry of Education is actively registration in secondary upgrading credit courses. The Ministry of Education has committed to sharing the benefits of upgrading courses with post secondary institutions to help reduce learning gaps for students.
 Registration closes Wednesday June 24, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

1. All course work will need to be completed online. Students who require a TVDSB-loaned device should send an email to and include the student name and address, current school, and the summer program student has registered for.

2.As in traditional classes, regular attendance for online learning is critical for success at summer school. Online summer Improvement Courses involve a minimum of 55 hours of content and instruction. Students must log in every school day (Monday to Friday) and are expected to spend 6 hours per day on their online course, plus additional time for assignments and studying for tests and exams. All work must be completed and submitted as instructed by the online teacher. Students are expected to keep up with the course material, due dates and time commitments each week. Students who do not login to their online course regularly risk being removed from the course for failing to meet the requirements.

3. International Students who are currently required to pay International Fees to attend regular day school will also be required to pay a fee to attend Summer School. This fee must be paid prior to registering for a summer Improvement Course. See details under Registration Information below.

4. TVDSB reserves the right to cancel courses if there is insufficient enrolment. Students/parents/legal guardians will be notified by email if the course they registered for is cancelled.

5.Summer students in the Improvement Course Online program are expected to adhere to the standard rules of academic integrity, the same as expected of students in a classroom setting. It is recommended that students read the entire Summer School Code of Conduct.
