COVID-19 Update #5: This email was sent to all Self Study students on June 11, 2020

Dear Self Study Learner:

As we come to the conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year, I have some updates to provide you about the Self Study program.

The last day that we will be accepting assignment submissions for both booklet-based and online Self Study courses will be Monday, June 22 @ 9:00am. We will do our best to get these assignments marked as soon as possible. The Self Study program will be on pause for the remainder of June, July, August and first part of September. We will begin to accept assignment submissions again, for both booklet-based and online Self Study courses, on Monday, September 14, 2020.

In addition, we have extended the last day to complete booklet-based Self Study courses. Originally, the last day to submit assignments for marking of booklet-based Self Study courses was scheduled to be Friday, May 29, 2020. The last opportunity to write final exams for booklet-based Self Study courses was to be Thursday, June 11, 2020. The following are new, updated dates:
     - Last Day to Submit Booklet-Based Self Study Assignments for Marking: Monday, November 9, 2020
     - Last Day to Write Booklet-Based Self Study Final Exam: Wednesday, November 18, 2020

We will not accept any assignments for marking in booklet-based Self Study courses after Monday, November 9, 2020. Students can not write a final exam for booklet-based Self Study courses after Wednesday, November 18, 2020. After these dates, we would encourage students to enroll in online Self Study courses should you wish to continue earning credits through our Self Study program. There will be no further extension to these dates should schools not re-open in September. For now, we will continue with the policy that if the final lesson in a course is submitted prior to schools re-opening there will be no final exam in the course. Once schools re-open, final exams must be booked, written, and passed in order to earn a credit in the course. If you finish the final lesson in your course after Monday, June 22 @ 9:00am and schools re-open at any point in July, or August, you will be required to write a final exam on or before November 18, 2020. If possible, I recommend you to do your best to submit all lessons in your course prior to Monday, June 22 @ 9:00am.

If you are not able to complete your lessons by Monday, June 22 @ 9:00am you are welcome to continue to work on your course during the pause period of late June, July, August and early September using any booklets already in your possession.

In order to submit all completed lessons, up to and including the final lesson in your course, for marking, you need to email the lessons to the campus you registered for your Self Study course. Consider completing your work in a word processing document or taking pictures of your work and submitting those photos.

      - Blossom Park, Woodstock and Tillsonburg: Lisa Wilson, lisa.wilson@tvdsb.ca
      - Balaclava, St. Thomas and Strathroy: Jennifer McIntee, j.mcintee@tvdsb.ca

We are considering another opportunity to obtain booklets and will communicate this information if it becomes available.

Distribution of booklets will be at the G.A. Wheable Centre for Adult and Continuing Education (70 Jacqueline Street, London) on Friday, May 8, 2020 from 9:00am to 10:30am. COVID-19 Update #1: This email was sent to all Self Study students on April 27, 2020
Dear Adult Learner:

Overview:
I thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked through these unprecedented times. I would like to provide you with an update in regard to your Self Study course(s). Currently, there are two formats that students are enrolled in for a Self Study course, booklet-based and online.

Booklet-based Self Study Courses:
Students may continue to work on the booklets they currently have. If a student is currently working on completing their final booklet, typically lessons 16 – 20, their course will end with no final exam to be completed once the final lesson is submitted. The work from the marked lessons will comprise the final mark in the course. In order to submit all completed lessons, up to and including the final lesson in your course, for marking you need to email the lessons to the campus you registered for your Self Study course. Consider completing your work in a word processing document or taking pictures of your work and submitting those photos.
     - G. A. Wheable, London: Wheable Self Study, wheableselfstudy@tvdsb.ca
     - Blossom Park, Woodstock and Tillsonburg: Lisa Wilson, lisa.wilson@tvdsb.ca
     - Balaclava, St. Thomas and Strathroy: Jennifer McIntee, j.mcintee@tvdsb.ca

If you are working on lessons that does not include the final lesson in your course, once schools open you will be able to submit work and obtain the next booklet in your course. Final exams will be written as schools open. At this time, the Ministry has not announced a time for schools to re-open. As a result of COVID-19, we will be extending our original deadlines to complete a booklet-based course. There will be an opportunity to submit lessons beyond May 29, 2020. Final exams can be written beyond Thursday, June 11, 2020. We will communicate new deadlines for submission of lessons for marking and last day to write final exams once the Ministry of Education has provided updated information.

Online Self Study Courses:
Students may continue to work on their courses, submitting assignments as they complete them. Your work will continue to be assessed by markers. If you complete your course during the school closures, there will be no proctored in-person final exam and your final mark will be determined using the work your submitted in the course. Once schools re-open, we will return to proctored in-person final exams for all Self Study courses.

Another Opportunity to Earn Credits:
I would also like to draw to your attention to the fact Adult and Continuing Education will be running online courses for Term 4 from April 27th to June 22nd, 2020. Due to the current COVID-19 situation all courses for Term 4 will be completed through the Ministry of Education’s approved online learning platform, Brightspace. This is the same platform you may have been using for your online Self Study course. For more information about registration and the courses available please check out www.tvdsb.ca/ace.

In order to register for an Adult Day Credit Term 4 course, please complete and submit the form found at bit.ly/term4registration. Your registration will not be complete unless all required information is included. Please note that, as always, course offerings are contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Registration will run from April 14th to April 22nd, 2020. You will be contacted to confirm your enrollment in Term 4 via the contact information you enter in the form. Please answer calls from ‘anonymous’ or ‘unknown caller’ as this may be the school calling.

Wrap-Up:
The entire team at Adult and Continuing Education appreciates the hard work you are doing in your course(s). As we learn more information about the direction of the Self Study program, we will communicate this information to you.
