What if I need a course for post-secondary next September?

You will need to come into the school to fill out a college or university form. We can explain the process at this time.

In order for work to be marked before the markers are off for the summer, exams must be written by June 6, 2019 at the latest.

Who is eligible to take self-study?
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Not registered in any adolescent day school
  • Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
  • Ontario resident
Where/when can I hand in work?
G. A. Wheable Self Study Office

Room M245
8:00 am - 3:15 pm
Monday to Friday
519-452-2660 ext. 69721
(Office hours are subject to change)

Or one of the alternative locations listed at the top of the page.

How many courses can I take at a time?
You may sign up for one course to start. When the first five lessons are marked, you may sign up for a second course by attending an open registration. Please bring all the above items to register for your second course.
How long does it take to complete a self-study course?

Typically a course can completed in three months.  Some students finish sooner.  This all depends on how much time a student can commit to the course.

What does the course involve?
There are 4 or 5 units (booklets) in each course. You will read through and answer the questions on separate note paper. You are not permitted to write in our books. You must answer all support and key questions. The key questions get marked, the support questions do not, but the markers will not mark the key questions if the support questions have not been answered. You can only take one book home at a time.
How do I know that my work has been marked?

We do not call you when your work has come back marked. It is your responsibility to come to the school and check if you work is here. Work is kept in a filing cabinet, filed by the student's last name.

After you have completed all 20 lessons, and they have all been marked, you will be contacted by us with a scheduled date and time for your exam.

Where do I write my exam?
You will write your exam at one of the Adult Learning Centres (the location you registered at). Your individual examination time may be booked only after your final lesson has been marked and returned and a passing average has been achieved for the 20 lessons of the course.
What if I need extra help?
We do not offer any sort of tutoring or outside help. However, we have had a few helpful websites shared with us that students may wish to use and
Very limited 2-hour street parking is available nearby. Public transit or arranging drop-off/pickup is recommended. All registration sessions take 30 minutes or more.
