Huron College, Western University

The School Within A University program is a partnership between the Thames Valley District School Board and Western University in London, Ontario. The program is designed for students who are at risk of discontinuing their secondary education and compromising potential post-secondary pathways.

School Within a University allows students ages 17-20 the opportunity to experience the university environment and work toward the completion of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and successful transition to university or other post-secondary programs.

What is Provided to Students?

Students are considered full-time secondary students through Thames Valley Alternative Secondary School and have the option to enroll in one course part-time through Western University if they meet course prerequisites. Students have access to the services of Western University, including the library system, Student Recreation Centre, teams, clubs, intramurals, health care and support programs through the Student Success Centre and Learning Support Centre.

Students choose from a wide variety of courses, both at the secondary and post-secondary level. Course selection for secondary school will be completed with the School Within a University staff and the selection of the Western course will be assisted by the staff at Western's Student Success Centre.

Students accepted into the program are provided with textbooks and supplies needed for both the secondary school and university components of the program, as well as computer access for online courses, and any other necessary resources.
