Term 1

Term 2

  • Registration will be completed online, starting October 23, 2020. Registration will close on Monday, November 2, 2020 @ 8:00am.

Term 3

  • These dates are subject to change or become an online registration.
    • January 19, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    • January 21, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Term 4

Hairstyling Program

(This program will not run during Term 1 or Term 2 of the 2020-2021 school year.)

The hairstyling program at G. A. Wheable is designed for those who want to experience the profession of hairstyling. Our program provides students up to 8 credits towards their OSSD. Individuals looking to become licensed hairstylists can join our apprenticeship program for year 1. A successful student from our apprenticeship program has the opportunity to write the level 1 exemption exam.

Program Information:
Students taking the hairstyling program have the opportunity to work in a salon/spa environment where they will provide services for a diverse clientele; thus, allowing students to focus on pursing their career as a hairstylist, aesthetician, nail technician, or make-up artist. Our in school component will allow students to gain hands-on experiences by using professional materials and equipment.  Students will learn professional terminology, transferable problem solving skills, and learn skills that will assist them in the hairstyling and aesthetics fields. In addition, students will have the ability to expand their communication and interpersonal skills by interacting with their peers and clients.

  • Hair coloring and Lightening
  • General Anatomy and Physiology
  • Health and Safety
  • Chemical Texture Services - Understanding Permanent Waves, Hair Relaxers Curl Reformations, Texturizes and Chemical Blowouts
  • Communication with co-workers, customers, and supervisors
Course Provides:
  • WHMIS Awareness Training
  • Up to 8 credits towards OSSD
  • Work placement through credit co-op
  • 14 weeks in school
  • 14 weeks of co-op placement ( location of placements vary within hairstyling and aesthetics sector)
Program Schedule:
  • Term 1 - Full day Co-op placement
  • Term 2 - In School - Hairstyling and Aesthetics
  • Term 3 - Full Day Co-op Placement
  • Term 4 - Full Day co-op placement or In School - Hairstyling and Aesthetics
Registration Information:

Students are strongly recommended to make an appointment to register for the hairstyling program. To make an appointment please email or call 519-452-2660 ext. 69730. Hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm 

The following items are required at registration: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Proof of citizenship (Canadian Birth Certificate, Passport, Canadian Citizenship Card, Landed/Permanent Resident Card of Refugee Documentation)
  • Transcript, Credit Counselling Summary, ESL Bench Mark Papers (ESL bench marks must be at level 7)
  • Fee of $450
    • Methods of Payment: Cash, Debit, Money Order (Payable to Thames Valley District School Board)
    • For students that are enrolled on Ontario Works please bring your caseworker name and caseload number
