Update: Tenders awarded for the construction of two new London public schools

The Thames Valley District School Board is excited to announce that work will begin this year on two new London public schools with attached childcare centres.

A tender for the new northwest London public school was recently awarded to D. Grant Construction Ltd. The tender for the new southwest London public school was awarded to K&L Construction Ltd.

Both schools are expected to open in September 2025.

In December, the Ministry committed to providing more funding for both schools. The new northwest London elementary school project will receive $9.1 million more funding. The new southwest London elementary school project will receive an additional $8 million.

The $28.7 million new northwest London school will have space for 802 students. It will also include child care centre with 88 licensed spaces (10 infants, 30 toddlers, 48 preschoolers).

Similarly, the $28.8 million new southwest London School will have space for 804 students. It will also include a child care centre with 88 licensed spaces (10 infants, 30 toddlers, 48 preschoolers).

“We are determined to build schools and expansions faster, part of our commitment to modernize schools in fast growing communities," said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. "We are proud to deliver two new, state-of-the-art learning centres: Southwest London Elementary School and Northwest London Elementary School for London families, along with increasing funding, staffing and a back-to-basics focus on reading, writing and math skills to help ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in good-paying careers."

“This investment to build two local schools with a total of 1606 spaces and 176 childcare spaces is necessary to keep up with the demands of our growing community,” said Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “Providing modern educational facilities will create a more vibrant and resilient city for years to come.”

"We appreciate the responsiveness of the Ministry in its commitment to expanding school project builds to meet the needs of communities in a timely manner," said Thames Valley District School Board London Trustee Sherri Moore.

Beth Mai, Chair of the Board, added, "Collaboration is key with projects like these. Trustee Moore and I are thrilled to see that two new schools and child care centres in our wards are one step closer to completion."

“Enrolment in our board is growing now more than ever,” said Mark Fisher, Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board. “We want to thank the Ministry as well as our Municipal and community partners for their support. Thames Valley will continue to work hard to meet the needs of students and families. I sincerely believe these schools and child care centres will have a lasting positive impact.”

"As London continues to grow, these much-needed spaces will help more children access licensed child care in safe, caring environments,” said London CMSM, “Child care spaces within schools not only meet an immediate need, they also lay the foundation for lifelong learning as children transition seamlessly to school-age education."

Funding approved for new southwest London school

The Ministry of Education has announced funding for a new elementary school and child care centre in southwest London.

“We are very pleased the Ministry of Education has supported this important project that will help the Board deal with growing enrolment pressures in our elementary schools in London,” said Thames Valley Education Director Mark Fisher. “This is excellent news for our Board.”

The $20.7-million project includes a new school for 804 pupils, and a five-room child care centre for 88 infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, to address accommodation pressures in southwest London.

“We are very excited the Ministry of Education has supported the construction of a new school and child care centre in southwest London,” said TVDSB Board Chair Lori-Ann Pizzolato, who noted the project could take up to 48 months to complete once land has been acquired.

The project is part of a provincewide investment of more than $600 million to support new school and child care spaces that were recently announced by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education.

“In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made safer schools a priority, which is why we continue to invest in modern and accessible learning spaces with improved ventilation,” said Minister Lecce. “This investment is part of our multiyear plan to build, expand, and update schools and child care spaces across our province. It will leave a lasting legacy that benefits working families for years to come.”
