Dorchester child care expansion approved

Thames Valley has received approval from the Ministry of Education to tender a $8.4 million Child Care Centre and EarlyON Child and Family Centre at River Heights Public School in the Middlesex County community of Dorchester.

The Child Care Centre will provide licensed child care for 10 infants, 30 toddlers, and 72 preschoolers.

The EarlyON Child and Family Centre will offer families programs and services that promote early learning and development and provide referrals to specialized services. Children will have access to play- and inquiry-based learning opportunities.

Thames Valley is grateful for the continued support of the Ministry of Education and collaboration with the City of London and County of Middlesex.

“Early learning and licensed child care opportunities help give children the best possible start in life. We are so pleased that the River Heights Child Care and Family Centre project has reached this milestone and look forward to seeing this new facility serve the community in Middlesex County,” said Trevor Fowler, Service System Manager for London and Middlesex.

“I am very pleased that families in Dorchester finally have access to additional licensed childcare options in their home community,” said Jeff Yurek, MPP. “The addition of these spaces represents a host of new opportunities for both parents and children at a time when access to childcare has never been more important.”

“Safe and affordable high-quality child care is critically important for hard-working families in every corner of the province, as well as Ontario’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Minister of Education Stephen Lecce. “By creating new child care spaces at River Heights Public School, our government is providing real support to Dorchester parents.”

“This is an excellent example of cooperation between the municipality and the school board, whose staff worked collaboratively to problem-solve and develop creative solutions to bring this project to fruition for the benefit of Thames Valley families and the rapidly growing communities of Thames Centre,” said Trustees Sean Hunt and Arlene Morell.
