2018 Message from the Director of Education

The Thames Valley District School Board is a dynamic learning organization which prepares our students to embrace the opportunities, and overcome the challenges they will encounter in today’s ever changing world. This Annual Report highlights just a few of these engaging success stories from across our district. I am excited to share some of our many innovative programs and experiences designed to engage our students in their own learning.

This fall we launched our new Strategic Plan which identifies our three strategic priorities: Relationships; Equity and Diversity; and Achievement and Well-Being. Our new Operational Plan provides the framework to guide staff in the delivery of our Board’s strategic priorities to realize high levels of student achievement. We are deeply committed to implementing five strategic objectives which form the basis of the Operational Plan:

  • Improving Student Achievement in Mathematics;
  • Improving the Five Year Graduation Rate;
  • Enhancing Communication and Engagement in our Community;
  • Creating Secondary Learning Experiences and Environments that are Engaging, Inclusive and Relevant; and
  • Creating Equitable and Inclusive Learning and Work Environments for Students and Staff to Achieve Success.

We know that this is a tremendous responsibility and I have every confidence that the incredible team of Thames Valley administrators, teachers and support staff will continue to use their exceptional strengths, skills and passion to deliver exemplary programs and services to our students.

Engagement is vital to the success of our students and schools, and our history speaks to our strong connections which we have developed with parents, guardians, and community members. Community engagement is essential in supporting our Board’s Vision and Mission  and allows our students the benefits of experiential and service learning.

Within every Thames Valley school, you will see evidence of excellence and inclusive school cultures where our students and staff feel welcomed, valued and safe. Our supportive and nurturing school environments are foundational and critical to student success.

The coming year will bring many exciting opportunities for us to continue to collaboratively build an inclusive Thames Valley community with the shared purpose of providing exceptional learning opportunities for our students.

With warm wishes,

Laura Elliott
Director of Education
