Parent and Guardian Update: Emergency Order

Posted On Wednesday January 13, 2021

The Province of Ontario has been ordered to follow further restrictions as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise. The government has issued a second emergency order effective January 14, 2021.

Here is what Parents and Guardians need to know:

  • All Elementary and Secondary remote learning will continue and technology is being deployed as quickly as possible to families who have submitted requests. Schools are connecting with families who do not have access to technology to ensure learning continues.
  • Schools will continue to be open for in-person instruction for students with complex special education needs enrolled in our special education classes.
  • Child care centers operating in TVDSB schools remain open. Emergency child care continues to be offered to essential workers, including those in education who are required to work in schools. Please contact child care operators for more information.
  • Our buildings continue to be cleaned and maintained for those students and staff who are in our schools and for our eventual return to in-person learning.
  • By January 20, 2021, the Chief Medical Officer of Health will advise the Ministry of Education, in conjunction with local public health units, which school boards will resume in-person instruction, based on the most up-to-date COVID-19 information. At this time, in-person learning students are scheduled to return to school in person on January 25, 2021.
  • Please contact your child’s school if you have questions or concerns.

We continue to follow directives set by the Ministry of Education and work with our partners in public health as we navigate this period. We know this time is challenging in many ways—for students and staff, for working caregivers and for families with multiple children who are learning at home.

We are proud of our students for adjustments they have made as full remote learners. We want families to know that no student will be disadvantaged as a result of COVID-19 and TVDSB is committed to working with students to ensure they are supported and continue to learn.

The mental health and well-being of our students and families is important. Please visit Mental Health and Well-being or School Mental Health Ontario for information and resources for students and families.
