Parents Asked to Declare Interest in Full Remote French Immersion

Posted On Monday May 03, 2021

Thames Valley is asking parents and guardians of French Immersion students to indicate whether they wish to enroll their children in In-Person or Full Remote programming in September.

“We listened to parents and guardians and the Board wants to explore the feasibility of making French Immersion available to Full Remote Learners in the fall,” said Education Director Mark Fisher.

French Immersion has not yet been offered as an option for Full Remote Learning next year due to staffing concerns and low enrolment this year.

“If there is enough interest, the Board will do its best to offer French Immersion as a Full Remote Learning option for students based on expressions of interest and staffing availability,” added Director Fisher.

Parents and guardians have until Tuesday, June 1 to declare whether they wish their children to attend In-Person or Full Remote Learning for the next school year beginning in September 2021. Parents and guardians now have the opportunity to also declare their interest in French Immersion as well for the 2021-22 school year.

As of Tuesday, May 4, 2021, parents and guardians will be asked to indicate their interest in French Immersion. They can do this by accessing the Declaration of Learning Model form, found on the Thames Valley Parent Portal at www.tvdsb.ca/parentportal. If families have already completed the form, but wish to express interest in a Full Remote French Immersion program, if offered, they are asked to revisit the Parent Portal and indicate this request.

Parents and guardians are asked to contact their home school if they can’t access the Parent Portal or if they do not have access to the Internet.

To assist in making their decision regarding In-Person or Full Remote Learning, Thames Valley strongly recommends families read Getting Ready for September 2021 – A Family Resource at the following link: www.tvdsb.ca/Readyfor2021

Parents and guardians can contact their child’s school if they need more information to determine which learning model is right for their child.
