Board defers community input on names of 12 schools until financial implication report can be received
On November 29, Trustees unanimously agreed to defer plans to seek community input about whether 12 schools should be renamed until a financial implication report be produced on the renaming of a school and community consultation at the December 20, 2022 Board meeting.
The 12 schools involved in the potential community input process include:
- Lord Elgin P.S.
- Lord Nelson P.S.
- Lord Roberts F.I.P.S.
- Prince Charles P.S.
- Princess Anne F.I.P.S.
- St. George's P.S.
- McGillivray Central P.S.
?- Victoria P.S.
- Sir George Etienne Cartier P.S.
- Lord Dorchester S.S.
- Montcalm S.S.
- Sir Wilfrid Laurier S.S.
The Board’s decision follows its motion to conduct a review all Thames Valley facilities named after individuals in 2021 as well as a report from the School Name Review Committee that Trustees heard last spring. Thames Valley wishes to ensure that all TVDSB facilities named after individuals reflect its commitment to promote human rights, equity and inclusive learning environments and honour the diversity of TVDSB schools and community.
