The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has publicly released 2024-25 results for the province and for Thames Valley District School Board for the Grade 3 and Grade 6 Reading, Writing and Math Assessments, the Grade 9 Mathematics Assessment and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).

Highlights

Elementary Results

  • Elementary students see highest reading and math results since EQAO assessments were modernized in 2021-22. The percentage of grade 3 and 6 students meeting provincial standard in both reading and math has increased, reflecting Thames Valley’s commitment to improving student achievement.
  • Grade 6 students continue to make literacy and numeracy gains. More grade 6 students are meeting provincial standard in reading, writing and math, with 82% of students at provincial standard in reading (+4%), 81% in writing (+6%) and 50% in math (+2%).
  • Grade 3 writing requires additional focus. 56% of grade 3 students are meeting provincial standard in writing, representing a 2% decrease compared to 2023-2024. Schools and senior administrators will be reviewing these results and identifying student needs at all levels in the coming weeks.

“Every school team across Thames Valley has developed and implemented a school-based EQAO support plan, demonstrating a strong, intentional focus on improving literacy and numeracy achievement,” said Kevin Auckland, Superintendent of Student Achievement. “This hard work is reflected in the 2024-25 EQAO results, where we are seeing historical gains in several assessments. We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of school leaders and educators, as well as the collaboration of Thames Valley parents and caregivers, who play an instrumental role in every student’s success.”

Secondary Results

  • Grade 9 students are making significant gains in math, achieving highest results since EQAO assessments were modernized in 2021-22. The percentage of grade 9 students meeting provincial standard increased by 5 percentage points to 52%, showing the continued effectiveness of the board’s efforts to support student numeracy achievement.

“Thames Valley has developed a board-wide Math Action Plan focussed on understanding our students, curriculum and teaching strategies to drive numeracy skill development. We’re pleased to see the impact of this plan in our EQAO math assessment results this year,” said Sheila Builder, Superintendent of Student Achievement. “By leveraging provincial supports and digital tools for both students and staff, we have implemented high-impact instructional practices and dedicated support staff in our schools, with a particular focus on priority math schools.”

Thames Valley will use these results to build on our Student Achievement Plan, which supports actions and strategies to improve learning outcomes with a particular focus on student literacy and numeracy learning. Schools will provide families with EQAO information, including individual student reports.
