United Way agencies of Elgin-St. Thomas, London-Middlesex and Oxford received a donation of $307,258 from the staff and students of Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB).

Director of Education Laura Elliott, told those attending the presentation that United Way is all about community.

“The ultimate goal of the United Way is to help people improve their quality of life. The United Way is about bringing people together because we accomplish more as a community than any of us can alone,” Elliott said.

The TVDSB has been running school and board events annually to raise funds for the United Way for a number of decades through various activities including the United Way StairClimb and the annual United Way football games. More than 80 per cent of the total is raised through staff payroll contributions.

“Once again we have staff and students to thank for their enthusiastic commitment to this year’s United Way campaign,” said Paul McKenzie, Administrative Liaison and TVDSB Superintendent. “The donations we’ve received will continue to support the important and impactful work of our three United Way organizations in our communities.”

During the presentation, Thames Valley staff members who played key roles in the success of this year’s campaign were recognized.
