The Board of Trustees approved several recommendations outlined in the final London Attendance Area Review (LAAR) report during last night’s Board meeting in order to better balance enrolment across Elementary schools in the City.

Administration presented the report at a special Board meeting on June 7, which was followed by presentations from the public at the June 22 Board meeting.

“Enrolment is rapidly increasing in many London neighbourhoods as more families move to the City,” said Chair Lori-Ann Pizzolato. “It’s clear that our Board needs to act now to rebalance enrolment and strengthen our business cases with the Ministry of Education for building new schools in the future.”

Trustees took public feedback into account when considering recommendations from the final report, which was developed in consultation with community subcommittees.

Among the motions carried last night was one by Trustee Rahman requesting that the Chair send a letter to the Mayor of London and City Council to encourage further collaboration between Trustees and Councillors on development in the City and its impacts on London schools.
