Thames Valley expands partnership to offer free Wi-Fi access in London

Posted On Wednesday June 10, 2020

As part of an ongoing effort to ensure students and families have access to online resources, the Thames Valley District School Board has partnered with London Public Library to offer free and reliable Internet outside 11 of their locations.

This new announcement is in addition to the more than 34 locations the Board has already partnered with across the county.

Since the beginning of distance based learning, Thames Valley has distributed more than 600 wireless enabled devices to families who do not have access to the Internet at home, as well as over 14,000 computing devices.

“It is important that all Thames Valley students who want access to the Internet are supported,” says Sheila Powell, Superintendent at TVDSB. “Students returning to Thames Valley are not expected to hand in their TVDSB device until schools reopen so that they may continue to access online learning and resources throughout the summer.”

Through this partnership, TVDSB Wi-Fi network is now being broadcast to London Public Library wireless access points that are accessible outside library buildings. This ensures that students can easily access the TVDSB network without having to reconfigure their devices. All London public Library buildings remain closed to the public at this time.
