Board approves community input on the renaming of 12 schools

Posted On Tuesday December 20, 2022

On December 20, after a financial implication report was presented by administration, Trustees passed a motion to seek community input about whether 12 schools should be renamed.

The 12 schools involved in the community input process include:

Lord Elgin Public School
Lord Nelson Public School
Lord Roberts French Immersion Public School
Prince Charles Public School
Princess Anne French Immersion Public School
St. George's Public School
McGillivray Central Public School
Victoria Public School
Sir George Etienne Cartier Public School
Lord Dorchester Secondary School
Montcalm Secondary School
Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School

Online input opportunities and in-person engagement sessions will begin in the Fall of 2023 and will run until the Spring of 2025.

The Board’s decision follows its motion to conduct a review of all Thames Valley facilities named after individuals in 2021 as well as a report from the School Name Review Committee that Trustees heard last spring.

Thames Valley wishes to ensure that all TVDSB facilities named after individuals reflect its commitment to promote human rights, equity and inclusive learning environments and honour the diversity of TVDSB schools and community.
