Overview:


Operations Services provides supervision and support to 171 schools and approximately 76,800 students within the Thames Valley District School Board. Operations Services is committed to providing services to all the communities that we serve:
  • ensuring that decisions focus on student learning
  • ensuring a focus on school improvement
  • being responsible to school community initiatives
  • recognizing that school-based decision-making within established parameters supports and enhances learning
  • ensuring that the community, trustees, and staff understand the access points for decision-making and problem-solving, and that these access points are communicated to all stakeholders
  • ensuring accountability through the consistent implementation of policies and procedures

OnSIS:


OnSIS is a Ministry system for the collection and management of education related data providing the Ministry with information to facilitate policy development and business planning. The OnSIS team provides support to schools and departments in the following areas:
  • interpret OnSIS requirements, develop data quality management strategies, and co-ordinate school and Board OnSIS submissions;
  • review data quality, validity, inter-reliability, and reporting methodologies;
  • develop and manage ongoing OnSIS training and support while working with schools and departments;
  • collaborate with Ministry, Boards, and vendors.


Planning Services:


The Planning Services area has primary responsibility for monitoring demographic trends, system enrollment projections, analysis of school site requirements, school catchment areas, and liaison with the co-terminus board. The planning department also monitors new housing development in order to assist with our facility planning. In addition, the Planning Services area is responsible for providing support in areas such as system accommodation review studies and reports, area accommodation study committees, long-term accommodation and facility requirements, and planning input into the Ministry of Education Accountability Framework.


Research & Assessment:


Research and Assessment Services provides services, support, training, consultation and leadership in the areas of research, evaluation, program review, and student assessment to individuals, schools and the system. To this end, staff of Research and Assessment Services work with board and school personnel in the following areas:
  • school improvement initiatives
  • system improvement initiatives
  • reviews of system programs and services
  • training, implementation, and co-ordination of school and classroom based student assessment
  • analysis, reporting, and monitoring of large scale District, Student and Provincial assessments
  • development and use of school and system level surveys
  • development, implementation, and support for student information systems
  • research and development of information collection and reporting processes
  • school-level research and evaluation initiatives
  • external research requests
  • research collaboration with external agencies and organizations
  • system capacity building on data interpretation and knowledge mobilization
  • spatial and geostatistical analyses
  • cartographic representation of student and school based data
  • development of program evaluation frameworks

Operations Services is pleased to provide again this school year a School and Administrator directory which has proven useful in the day-to-day operation of our large district. Thank you to those individuals who update this resource annually to facilitate our work with colleagues.

The Thames Valley District School Board operates 143 elementary schools and 28 Secondary Schools. Daily we educate approximately 54,000 elementary students and 26,800 secondary students. Our annual budget is in excess of $700,000,000 which equates to more than $3,000,000 each school day.

The essence of our being continues to be student learning. As School Administrators, we are committed to improving student learning. To this end, our professional development supports this focus which encompasses each local school having a school improvement plan.
