The Thames Valley District School Board invites you to join us in the world of social media.





Social media is now an essential part of communicating with school communities within Thames Valley. We hope these new tools will extend the reach of our current communications – giving students, parents, employees and other members of our community another way to get important and timely information.


 
The use of Social Media is guided by the ethical and professional principles outlined in existing Board policies and procedures, notably:

The rules of conduct for the TVDSB Facebook page can be found under “Info” on the left side of the TVDSB Facebook page.

In brief, the Thames Valley District School Board does not allow obscene, explicit or racial comments or posts, nor do we allow comments that are abusive, hateful or intended to defame anyone or any organization.

The Thames Valley District School Board's Facebook page is not for personal use. Comments involving personal issues with the Board, a school or staff member will be removed.

The Thames Valley District School Board reserves the right to delete comments that are considered:
  • spam
  • advertising or promotion of services, products or political organizations
  • clearly off-topic or disruptive 
  • advocating illegal activity 
  • infringement of copyrights or trademarks
  • violation of any Thames Valley District School Board policies
  • personal attacks, insults or threatening language
  • private, personal information published without consent
  • hyperlinks to material not related to the discussion

Participants use social media at their own risk, taking personal responsibility for all comments, username and their information provided. It is recommend that participants/users regularly check their security settings.


 
Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of July 2011, Facebook had more than 750 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Facebook users must register before using the site. 

Twitter is a website, owned and operated by Twitter Inc., which offers a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters – very similar to cell phone text messages – displayed on the user's profile page. Launched in July 2006, Twitter estimates it has 200 million users, generating 350 million tweets a day and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.
