2013 Summer Arts Camp


Lester B. Pearson Summer Arts Camp will cost $295 this year. This fee includes a free camp t-shirt and lunch served daily (except for the last day of each session.)

2012 Science Summer Camp (2013 is not confirmed at this time)

This summer at H.B. Beal Secondary School we will be offering a free science summer camp for future grade 7 & 8 students.
  • Beal will be hosting a free science summer camp to qualifying grade 7 & 8 students within our family of schools from July 4th - 6th, 2012. We are looking for students who show an academic interest in science, are enthusiastic learners and positive contributors to the classroom. Click for Details.

Our Summer School New Credit programs are intensive and fast-paced.  Students are encouraged to choose a New Credit course in a subject area in which they excel.  It is not recommended that students choose a New Credit course in a subject area they find challenging. eLearning Secondary School New Credit Program (Grades 9 – 12)
July 2 - July 29
eLearning allows the student to enroll in a course and earn credits without having to attend a TVDSB location. All course work is completed online. A reliable computer with internet connection is required. Students can work from a location of their choice (home, work, public library, friend's house, hotel, etc.). Students are expected to be online, completing course work, daily and will spend between 5-8 hours per day working on their online course. However, this time is flexible and can be completed at any time during the day. In addition, it does not have to be continuous. Many students will complete a few hours work in the morning and the rest of their work in the late evening. This leaves the bulk of the day for other activities, such as summer employment. Blended Learning allows the student to enroll in a course and earn credits while attending the G. A. Wheable Centre for two half days per week. Most course work is completed online, but some instruction will take place at Wheable on the half days. A reliable computer with internet connection is required. While working online students can work from a location of their choice (home, work, public library, friend's house, hotel, etc.). Students are expected to be online, completing course work, daily and will spend between 5-8 hours per day working on their online course. However, this time is flexible (with the exception of required times to be at G. A Wheable Centre) and can be completed at any time during the day. In addition, it does not have to be continuous. Many students will complete a few hours work in the morning and the rest of their work in the late evening. This leaves the bulk of the day for other activities, such as summer employment. High School, Here I Come!!  For all Grade 8 Students.
August 19 – August 22
The High School, Here I Come!! program is four days of tips, hints, and skills to give students a heads-up as to what to expect when they enter high school.  The topics that will be discussed during the program include the reality of high school, academic expectations and study skills, getting and staying organized, and getting involved in the school community.  Students will have an opportunity to update their literacy, numeracy, and study skills.  The grade nine English and Math curricula will also be introduced. Click for Details.

Grade 7 and 8 Literacy & Numeracy Camp
July 8 - July 12 & July 15 – 19
Locations:  A. B. Lucas S. S. & Oakridge S. S.
Our Literacy Numeracy Camp is designed to offer students the opportunity to develop a range of literacy/numeracy based strategies to improve their learning and achievement.   Our program runs for a full day and includes an activity based component focused on enhancing literacy/numeracy for each grade level.  These are not credit bearing or pass/fail programs. Grade 7 and 8 ESL Program
8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
The summer literacy program for English language learners (ELLs) is designed for Grade 7 & 8 students who are at early stages of English acquisition.  The program focuses on oral language development and vocabulary building, as well as supporting the development of reading and writing skills.
 
Instructional strategies are used that prepare and further develop ELLs’ ability to participate and be successful in Ontario’s education system.

The summer literacy program provides an environment where students are encouraged and supported in taking the necessary risks to develop their proficiency in English.Course Selection and Registration information to follow. Click for Details.
