Learning and Literacy @ Your Library! HUGE NEWS!!! BONAVENTURE MEADOWS' OWN PUBLISHED AUTHORS!! More than 2 years ago, after having world-renowned author Kathy Kacer visit our school, Kathy and I were talking about new writing ideas. Kathy asked me what I thought about students helping her write her next book and I whole-heartedly exclaimed "We're in!" Kathy Kacer's parents were both World War II Jewish Holocaust survivors and have inspired Kathy to write many books about the Holocaust experience from many perspectives. What then began was a process of many months of writing with many Bonaventure students. Students were asked to write their own thoughts about the Holocaust and what it meant to them. Only 40 schools throughout the world were invited to participate (Canada, USA, China, Australia, etc.). Kathy guaranteed one student from each of these schools would be published. Well, Bonaventure has so much talent that 2 students were chosen to be published in this new book. After many long months of editing and waiting (boy, do we understand the long publishing process much better now!) the book is finally finished. See an excerpt from an email sent from Kathy Kacer recently: "My big news is THE BOOK IS FINISHED! I actually picked up the first copy today. And it looks beautiful!! I can't wait for each of you to see it. And here's the other news. We have a date for the launch of the book. We are planning an event on Sunday November 4, from 2-4 p.m. at the Orchard Park Library in Toronto." Our authors, Samantha R is now in Grade 10 and Brittany C is now in Grade 9. We are so proud of these girls. They are really and truly internationally published authors! What a wonderful resume already! Way to go girls! Thank you for my own autographed copy of "We Are Their Voice: Young People Respond to the Holocaust"! Check out some new technology I have been playing around with. I hope to use this web-based program with students this year...Ok, remember, I'm just learning too! GoAnimate.com: Bonaventure Meadows Library by Mrs. Library
