This message board is for Grade 7 & 8 Bonaventure students who have signed up for the Red Maple Program. After reading EACH book students are required to post an answer to the question listed for each book. Secondly, you are also required to respond to another student's post about the same book (make a comment, ask a question, etc.). As you will read a minimum of five novels you will be required to post/reply a minimum of 10 times (2 per/book). Any questions, please see Mrs. Liem.

| The Red Maple⢠Awards reading program brings an excellent selection of recent Canadian books to the attention of Ontario's grade 7 & 8 students. Through participation in the Red Maple program students improve literacy comprehension skills, read genres they might not have chosen on their own, and develop a love of reading. It rewards them for reading by making them the judges in a province-wide literary contest and allows them some satisfaction that they could have a say in honouring an author with a very prestigous award. I challenge our grade 7 & 8's to read the books before I do, and if they can do it, I will buy them a pizza lunch...I'd love to eat my words! |
| Silver Birch/ Bonaventure Book Battle 2013
|
| Out of all the books published in Canada each year, a committee nominates the top 10 fiction books for grades 3-6. This is the Silver Birch Program. Students are then asked to read a minimum of 5 of these books in order to earn a vote and therefore have a say in which author wins this very prestigious award. In addition, if students can read all 10 Silver Birch books,by voting day, April 26, I will buy them a pizza lunch - I hope I get to eat my words!
Also, new this year is our very own BONAVENTURE BOOK BATTLE where students are asked to read a minimum of 5 out of 10 digital books OR 5 out of 10 Non-Fiction books from our "Can Children Really Save the Earth"-themed books. |
