John Wise Green Team
Environmental Club-GREEN TEAM Welcome to the GREEN TEAM! We are a group of staff and students from grades 1-8 who care about the environment want to make a difference and help get our John Wise community GREEN. Our club meets once a month to plan and implement ideas that help staff, students and parents to reduce their carbon footprint and become more environmentally conscious. We would like work together as a John Wise community to become responsible, environmentally friendly citizens.
Current or Upcoming Events: April - Earth Month - please see Earth Month tab on the left for more details Recent Events: March 8 - The Green Team will be heading next door to visit Parkside's greenhouse and see what is happening over there. March - Earth Hour - Friday, March 30 - students will participate at school from 1-2 pm families are encouraged to participate at home on Saturday, March 31st from 8:30 - 9:30 pm February - National Sweater Day is Thursday, February 7th - John Wise challenges Forest Park to a sweater competition - John Wise finishes first with 78.85% of the school participating!! January - Green Team staff members attended Eco School workshops for the sharing of eco ideas from other school in the board (we are excited to think that we may have some composting opportunities) Ongoing Projects: Milk Bag Collection - collecting the 4L plastic bags to re-use (whole school) Milk Bag Recycling - weaving the bags into bed mats for third world countries (weaving group) Kool Aid Collection - collecting juice pouches to recycle with Terracycle (whole school) Daily Green Tip of the Day (On our school announcements each morning) Recycling - comprehensive recycling program (whole school) Composting - some classes are composting their food wastes and other materials - looking forward to our upcoming Cone Composting project Gardening - ongoing work on the reading garden and planting bulbs (whole school) Planter Boxes - for front of school (cooperatively with students from PCI)
Reading Garden Our Greening Project is well underway and students are able to use the brand new John Wise Reading Garden. We are grateful for all of the grants we received to help us with our greening projects.
