What an unbelievable amazing trip with the world's best Grade 8's!! You could not ask for better kids, better participation, better weather, better food, better enthusiasm, better counsellors, better parents . . . the list just goes on and on. Drop by the school and check out pictures, which will continue to appear for a while now!!
We continue to work on Cells and Cell Systems in Science, and on the Five Themes of Geographic Inquiry in Geography. Due dates have been sent out to everyone. This week, we will again work on a weekly paragraph using the Cogneeto web application. And of course, we continue to read and discuss literature all the time. In Math, we are really focusing on problem solving with two particular themes: communicating solutions and discussing the reasonableness of answers.
We continue to discuss issues surrounding bullying and crimminal activity based on the sharing of materials via the internet or by texting. We had a great discussion on the Day of Pink about thinking about three essential questions about information you share or things you say.
- Is it true?
- Is it kind?
- Is it necessary?
Wouldn't it be great if we didn't do things without asking ourselves these questions first.
Time management and organizational skills are essential for success during a student's high school years. We continue to focus on this - it is a difficult skill for students to develop, but it is essential. The use of the planner, and the use of this web site should really help.
Please make good use of the CLASSROOM NEWS section. Much of your work is listed there, along with due dates and guidelines. Let's get everything done - and get it done WELL!!!!
Many of our students were discussing the Amanda Todd story which is in the news right now. I came across this excellent discussion regarding cyber bullying and what parents and children can do to deal with it. It is well worth reading.
