She’s excited by new horizons in her art and math classes, as well as opportunities to get involved in student groups – such as the Anime Club to expose her to new art forms – and a wider range of athletics.
“I’m really excited about the sports,” Breanne says. “I’m planning on trying out for the volleyball team and the soccer team. Also, my teacher recommended that I try javelin throwing.”
While she is looking ahead to student life at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, Breanne admits she’ll miss Caradoc North.
“I think I’ll really miss the activities that we do with the younger students, like when we have Play Day for the Kindergarten students and the Grade 8’s run the play stations. And, we are reading buddies, too. I’ll miss my friends in lower grades, too.”
Breanne has also enjoyed the style of learning at Caradoc North, which Principal Cynthia Kneale says is enhanced by lots of group activity.
“We do a lot of group problem-solving in mathematics. The teacher has been working with our math coach so that it’s not just an individual activity but more of a group activity. It makes it more interesting and they can learn from one another,” says Mrs. Kneale.
But Breanne is looking forward to the next step in her education at SDCI. “I think the learning is going to be a lot different, but it’s going to be a lot of fun with new teachers, new friends and a new way of doing things,” Breanne says.
While Breanne is excited about going to high school, she has a plan to help with the transition. “On my first day I know I have plans with friends. We’ll walk to class together and meet at a certain place to have some security as we go into a new place.”
Principal Kneale knows Breanne will excel in high school because of the leadership skills she has demonstrated at Caradoc North. “Breanne has been a wonderful role model. The leadership that she has shown as a Grade 8 student has been just phenomenal.”
