SWAC students serve future of program

Students in the School Within a College (SWAC) program recently arranged and hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise awareness and donations for the program.

The evening was part of a student “legacy project”, developed with the help of teachers Matthew Sereda and Jessica Dowsett, which raised more than $300 to provide a welcome/orientation evening for next year's SWAC students.

Sereda says it was a “great privilege” to take part in the event and see students working towards improving their own education and that of students that will follow in their footsteps.

Special guest Ed Holder, MP for London West, spoke to students about the importance of education and congratulated them for their outstanding work. He said he would share the students' message of resilience and empowerment with his colleagues back in Ottawa.

This SWAC program is aimed at students who are in their last year of secondary school and require 8-10 credits to graduate. Students in this program spend every day at Fanshawe College.

The SWAC program offers students the opportunity to take up to four college courses and earn secondary school credits towards their diploma. All dual credit college courses are taught by a member of the college faculty and the secondary curriculum instruction is provided by a Thames Valley District School Board teacher.
