Each classroom was invited to submit one piece of art, which resulted in about 800 masterpieces displayed on the walls in the school foyers and hallways.
Principal Andy Rivett says Tracie Schembri, a Grade 2 teacher new to Jack Chambers this year, brought this tradition from her previous school. It was so well received at Jack Chambers that it will become an annual event.
“It was a wonderful experience to celebrate all of the artists at Jack Chambers. The student community and teachers were all able to recognize and congratulate hundreds of students for their artistic abilities,” Rivett says.
A shoebox for each classroom was placed in the front lobby for the collection of art appreciation forms. At the end of the week, each classroom received its box filled with feedback forms completed by parents, students and teachers.
Interestingly, Jack Chambers was named after the London-born artist, who attended H. B. Beal Secondary School and gained an international reputation as a painter and experimental filmmaker. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Museum London.
