Following the death of her mother’s best friend, Paula Knapp, to melanoma, Erin wanted to express her sympathy – and help others – through action. Having cut her hair to donate for wigs for cancer patients in the past, Erin jumped at the opportunity to do it all again to help people living with melanoma.
This time, Erin asked members of her school community, family and friends to donate a toonie to support her effort. She raised $1,500 for Chiros Care. Chiros Care provides funding, through the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, to assist with the care of individuals coping with melanoma treatment.
Erin’s hair was cut at a school assembly, attended by her mom, Karen, and other family and friends – including the Knapp family. Karen was very touched by her daughter’s kindness and by the community’s response. “The whole community really pitched in,” she says.
