Westminster Wildcats return for gold reunion

A large pride of wildcats will be descending upon Westminster Secondary School for a reunion on May 25 and 26 in celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary.

The weekend begins on Friday, May 25 with opening ceremonies, a coffee lounge, a pub night and tours of “decade rooms” – classrooms decorated to reflect each decade of Westminster’s history.

On Saturday, the fun continues with displays and events at the school. Alumni are invited to attend sports and music events, a barbecue lunch served by current students, a retro and cultural fashion show and a Retro Vegas casino dinner and dance at the London Convention Centre.

The proceeds from the Vegas event will go to the Westminster Alumni Scholarship Fund. Westminster’s 25th Anniversary Reunion in May 1987 was so successful that it provided funds for the establishment of the Westminster Alumni Scholarship. As Wildcats are reflecting on happy memories and past achievements, they are encouraged to consider the needs of current and future students by supporting one of three fundraising projects:

Westminster Alumni Scholarship Fund

• An award of $1,000 has been presented to a deserving graduate at every annual commencement ceremony since the 25th reunion.

Westminster Secondary School Program Enhancement Fund

• This Fund will support program enhancements, field trips and specialized equipment beyond that supplied by the school board in the areas of the Arts (music, dance, drama), Physical Education and Athletics and Technology.

Westminster Gym Floor

• Visit the school website or call the school (519-452-2900) for more information about how donations to the gym floor initiative are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

For more information about the reunion – and to view videos with music and photos from each decade of the school’s history – visit www.westminsteralumni.ca/index.aspf.
