Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
Speech and Language Pathology staff provide a range of services according to the needs of the student:
- collaborative assessment
- intervention (individual, group, in class)
- consultation with parents, teachers and other support staff
- programming for home and classroom (support for Individual Education Plans)
- mediator based training
- monitoring of progress
- public education
- professional development
- liaison with other professionals
- participation on school teams
- community partnerships
- mentoring of graduating Speech Pathology and Communication Disorder Assistant students

When could a student be referred?
A child may be referred to Speech Language Pathology Services if there are concerns in the following areas:
- knowing the meaning of words
- using words appropriately
- listening to/following instructions
- using correct grammar and/or sentence structure
- understanding stories
- expressing ideas clearly
- requesting information
- learning to read and write
- interacting with others
- speaking clearly
- fluency of speech
- voice quality
Audiology Services
Audiology Services ensure that children's personal listening devices or hearing aids are functioning well within the classroom and other school settings, that classroom amplification systems are functioning well, and that teachers are comfortable using the equipment. The Audiology staff are committed to hearing conservation through early education of students on noise-induced hearing loss. They also serve as part of the team for managing auditory processing disorders.
Services Provided:
- For students
- order, set up and troubleshoot assitive listening devices such as FM systems
- troubleshoot hearing aid problems
- educate students about noise and hearing conservation
- For parents
- communicate protocols and anwer questions regarding hearing and auditory processing
- For Staff
- provide consultation regarding classroom acoustics
- interpret results of hearing and auditory processing assessments
- consult and collaborate with classroom and itinerant teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing
- participate on school teams
- liaise with community audiologists and other professionals
