Principals monitoring impact of current labour conditions
Principals and Vice-Principals from across Thames Valley continue assess the impact of current labour conditions. Some school gatherings and sports activities that depend on voluntary participation by teachers have been cancelled at a number of elementary schools, but there has been little effect in secondary schools to date. Tucker said he regrets the loss of opportunity and inconvenience to students and parents. "Student safety must be our highest priority and for that reason some events unfortunately are being cancelled where an elementary school can not meet those expectations," Education Director Bill Tucker said after meeting with Principals and Vice-Principals on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012. As part of an action plan to deal with current labour issues, elementary school principals were told to decide on a case-by-case basis if programs and events that depend on voluntary participation by teachers can continue. “Principals are doing their best to communicate with their school communities, but we advise parents to contact their school to find out if any activities have been cancelled,” Tucker added. Senior Board administration will continue to monitor developments carefully and are committed to reducing the impact on student achievement and learning.
