TVDSB anti-bullying campaign wins excellence awards

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 – ‘The Pledge’ to end bullying campaign was recognized with two Awards of Excellence at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Virtuoso Gala held in London on June 14, 2012.

The awards recognize excellence in communications management by campaign partners TVDSB and CTV London in the category of Community Relations and TVDSB’s success in Media Relations.

“These awards reflect the leadership of our professional support staff at Thames Valley,” says Education Director Bill Tucker. “They are an essential part of a team that is dedicated to creating safe and inclusive learning environments in our schools.”

Since 1995, the Virtuoso Awards have recognized outstanding achievement by communications and creative professionals across southwestern Ontario.

'The Pledge' also became the first Canadian initiative of its kind to be recognized with a National Exemplary Bullying Prevention Program Award granted by the U.S.-based School Safety Advocacy Council in February 2012.

The Thames Valley District School Board submitted the award applications on behalf of the community after more than 70,000 pledges were registered by individuals who expressed a commitment to bring an end to bullying.

Plans are underway to ‘Live The Pledge’ during Bullying Awareness Prevention Week in November, 2012 and throughout the school year.

Community members are invited to visit the website for bullying prevention resources, announcements and stories by media partners and personal experiences shared by your neighbours: www.tvdsb.on.ca/EndBullying.
