Trafalgar PS hosts car show to celebrate Father’s Day
Thursday, June 14, 2012 – Trafalgar Public School in London is inviting the community to join them on Saturday for a classic car show that will feature about 100 cars and motorcycles, a silent auction, raffles, music and food.
The event is being held the day before Father’s Day to create a fun opportunity for families – especially those with dads who are automobile enthusiasts – to spend time together and support school activities for Trafalgar students.
The event is being organized by school council chair Joe Pimentel, who is a car enthusiast and a father of two boys who attend Trafalgar P.S.
“We’re doing it as a fundraiser for the kids first and foremost. It’s our job to try to make school more enjoyable and give them many ways to want to learn,” says Pimentel.
Principal Nancy Tustin says the goal is to raise $4,000 to help to offset the cost of school trips, as well as visiting guest speakers and authors who can enrich students’ learning experience.
Participating drivers from as far as Barrie and Niagara Falls will meet at the Flying J Travel Plaza on Highbury Avenue and Hughway 401 and proceed with a police escort to the school. Drivers are expected to arrive at 8:45 a.m. Trophies will be presented for the Best Car in Show and People’s Choice.
In addition to viewing many classic cars and enjoying traditional fair food, attendees will be able to bid on silent auction items, including a $250 barbecue donated by the Home Depot and a $450 pass for Westhaven Golf and Country Club. In all, Pimentel has secured prizes from about 60 community businesses who “just wanted to support a little school that is taking a step forward.”
