Students honoured with Lawson Literary Awards
Monday, June 11, 2012 – Fifteen elementary students will be honoured for their writing skills at the 34rd annual Lawson Literary Awards ceremony at the Education Centre tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 12) at 6:30 p.m. Entries this year range from an exploration of The Canadian Identity to the role of the Canadian Infantry during World War II, as well as a closer look at The Infamous Battle for Caen. One student took a personal journey back into her own family history, recalling the glory days of great-great-uncle Ray Getliffe: A Local Hero – the former NHLer credited with giving Maurice “Rocket” Richard his nickname. Colonel Lawson developed the program in the name of his father, the Honourable Ray Lawson, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1946-1952.
