Trustee appointed to fill Board vacancy
Tuesday, April 24, 2012 – Trustees have unanimously approved the appointment of London lawyer Donna Clark to replace long-time Trustee Terry Roberts, who died on March 1, 2012. Clark was one of 42 individuals who applied for the post and one of 38 who were interviewed by a committee of Trustees headed by Joyce Bennett, Chair of the Thames Valley District School Board. “We were very impressed with Donna’s commitment to the community,” said Chair Bennett. “Donna is very knowledgeable about legislation and current issues and understands our focus on student achievement.” “Donna also believes that every child should have the opportunity to develop their own special abilities and leave our system with the skills they need to be successful.” Clark is an experienced lawyer who has a passion for education. “As the mother of three children I look forward to providing both a parent's and a lawyer’s perspective to the school board,” said Clark. “No one can replace Terry Roberts' experience with the board, but hopefully I’ll be able to bring a different skill set to the board table.” Today, Clark practices law on a part-time basis as a sole practitioner and advises non-profit corporations, including minor sports associations, and also focuses on employment matters, commercial disputes, administrative law and sports law. Clark, a resident of London’s Ward 10 will serve alongside Chair Bennett as the second trustee representing Wards 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13. Clark’s new position becomes effective April 30. She will serve until the end of the current school board's term on Nov. 30, 2014. Terry Roberts, a former chair of the Board, died after a 48-year commitment to public education as a teacher, principal, superintendent and trustee.
